Middle C is the C near the centre of the piano. Look for the group of two black keys β C is the white key immediately to their left.

Remember: Middle C is the C near the centre of the piano.
Meet Written Middle C

Here is Middle C written with the treble clef.
Notice something unusual: Middle C sits below the five lines of the staff.
Because Middle C is below the staff, it needs a short extra line through the note.
This is a ledger line
That small line is called a ledger line.

Why Is There an Extra Line?
The five staff lines cannot show every note on the piano.
When a note needs to go above or below the staff, short extra lines can be added.
