What Is Middle C?

Middle C is the C near the center of the piano keyboard. It is often used as a starting point for beginner pieces and as a reference when learning where notes are located.

Find the Center of the Keyboard

Look for the middle area of the keyboard, then find the nearest group of two black keys. The white key immediately to the left of that pair is Middle C.

Why Middle C Is Useful

Middle C gives you a reliable landmark. As you learn more notes, you can use it to understand whether a note is higher or lower and where your hands are positioned on the keyboard.
